Bruce Nuske is a ceramic artist based in Adelaide, South Australia. Nuske studied at the South Australian School of Art under Milton Moon, and later came to lead the Ceramics Department at TAFE for over 40 years. Now working from his home studio, Nuske makes both sculptural and functional pieces that combine references to his botanical knowledge, and a longstanding interest in decorative arts and crafts traditions. Combining a playful, curious approach with meticulous dedicication to detail, his works rely heavily on narrative alongside subtle autobiographical references. His pieces range in construction and scale, utilising hand built techniques such as press moulds and coils, to wheel throwing. Yet Nuske is perhaps best known for his use of decorative techniques, to create richly patterned and textured works intended for reflection, use and enjoyment.
